Bahrain F1 Grand Prix Cancelled

Late Notice! Bahrain F1 Grand Prix Cancelled!

The Crown Prince HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, informed Formula One’s Bernie Ecclestone that the Kingdom of Bahrain would withdraw from hosting this year’s F1 Grand Prix.

The Crown Prince said, “At the present time the country’s entire attention is focused on building a new national dialogue for Bahrain".

Chairman of the (BIC) Bahrain International Circuit, Zayed R. Alzayani said:
  • “Bahrain’s Grand Prix is a time of celebration and hosting the race is a source of great pride for Bahrain and Bahrainis. It is a showcase to the world and we look forward to welcoming the teams and drivers and everyone involved in Formula One back to Bahrain in the very near future. I hope that F1 and our friends around the world will understand our decision at this difficult time.”
Pole Position Point of View: Bahrain has been in political turmoil recently, as anyone who has been following world events will know. But I would have thought that this decision would have been arrived at much earlier than today; Feb 21 2011.

Not only will fans be disappointed but many will suffer financially, due to lost deposits if they have booked to attend the Bahrain race. Some compensation should be made available to those fans who may loose out due to this late cancellation of the Bahrain F1 race.

Following the Crown Prince’s decision, Bernie Ecclestone commented that, he was sad that Bahrain has had to withdraw from the race and wished the whole nation well as they begin to heal their country.

Bernie Ecclestone went on to say:- “The hospitality and warmth of the people of Bahrain is a hallmark of the race there, as anyone who has been at a Bahrain Grand Prix will testify. We look forward to being back in Bahrain soon.”

There is more information at this time about a new date for the rescheduling of the race.

The race was due to take place from the 11th to the 13th of March.

Pole Position is concerned that no mention of an apology, (as a common courtesy), has been made to us, the F1 fans. We have been forgotten about and left out in the cold, with no-care for the possible financial losses suffered by some fans. Then; the powers that be, wonder why F1 is loosing support in places like Australia!
